It’s time to rethink what we

consume and how we produce.

It’s time to rethink what we consume and how we produce.

Fashion is a dirty business. And jeans are one of the dirtiest garments out there. Due to its volume the denim industry has a big impact. On average people buy two billion pairs of jeans each year. Less than 1% of materials used to produce clothing is recycled into new clothing. Let’s do this differently.

Lease a jeans

In 2013 we introduced our pioneering Lease A Jeans system. Allowing you to lease a pair of jeans for a monthly fee. When the jeans are worn out, or if you feel like a change after 12 months, you can send in your jeans and switch to a new pair. We then recycle the old pairs into new items.

Usage over ownership

We promote use over ownership. By leasing jeans and recycling or upcycling the materials we move to a circular economy in the fashion industry. Lease A Jeans was a direct media-hit and still is an example at many universities educating on the circular economy.

Why lease – for the planet

In a linear economy, a pair of jeans is made, sold, worn and burned as trash or discarded to landfill where they end up polluting the environment. The end.

We make the shift from a linear design to a design for continuity. We recycle our old jeans and therefore don’t see those old jeans as waste but as valuable input for something new. Reusing cotton means we can generate positive impact. Cutting down on water and waste.

Product-as-a-service. By leasing a pair of jeans you are only paying for the service of the product. We want to keep our resources in use for as long as possible.

Why lease – for you

An increasing group of people is seeking to move away from permanent ownership of clothing. Our leasers enjoy the feeling of owning less. Also leasing generates more flexibility.

After 12 months. After a year of lease, you can swap to a new pair of jeans, only paying the monthly fee of €7,50.

A 2nd and 3rd pair. You can have up to three pairs of MUD Jeans in your wardrobe while only for the first paying the upfront costs of the membership.

Free Repair Service. We offer a Free Repair Service in case your jeans rip or tear. (Though at the moment, this is only available in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

Why lease – for MUD Jeans

A little more on how Lease A Jeans came into existence. After hearing about other business in which consumers only pay for the performance such as car sharing services or washing machines, Bert van Son, CEO of MUD Jeans, realized that the most reliable way of getting our product back is to avoid selling it in the first place. This in order to retain control of the materials. By retaining ownership of the raw materials, we make the process of recycling a given.
